Rising in the New York City music scene is Silverbird. With influences as diverse as Wilco, Heartless Bastards, and Sparklehorse, and a life story that includes a stint playing with Lana Del Rey and in the NYC jazz scene, Silverbird represents a startlingly raw new talent. Their music fearlessly treads through an emotional landscape that, combined with infectious melodies and swirling, intricate rhythms, provides an absolutely enchanting first listen.Armed only with basement tapes and rough demos, Silverbird caught the attention of English producer Kristopher Harris (Smoke Fairies, Story Books) and a partnership was formed. Out of this partnership comes Silverbird’s new EP Surface Life, released May 2014 to critical acclaim.

Silverbird is the brainchild of NYC musician Tim Barr, whose musical biography reads like a not-so-subtle hint at next-big-thingism: he played with Lana Del Rey back when she was Lizzy Grant; he’s opened for Portland’s wordiest lovesmiths the Blow, and has even studied and played with protégés of Dizzy Gillespie. A few listens to Hollow Heart further solidifies our suspicions that it’s only a matter of time before Silverbird buzzes its way to the top. The track is warm and billowing, moving unexpectedly as guitars surge and keys mellow out around Barr’s crisp and unintimidating croon. The band’s upcoming EP, Surface Life, drops May 27.
